A tragic attack by suspected kidnappers on Sunday between Kwana-Barau and Kundu village in Niger State resulted in the death of a driver identified as Emeka and the abduction of five passengers traveling from Kebbi State to Asaba, Delta State.

The attackers reportedly ambushed the Toyota vehicle (registration LND 863 YF), fatally shot the driver, and abducted the passengers.

In a related development, the Niger State Police Command confirmed the rescue of 19 passengers who had been kidnapped on November 1 while traveling from Sokoto to Bayelsa. These passengers were intercepted along the Tegina-Zungeru road and taken into a nearby forest by the abductors.

Niger State Police spokesperson Wasiu Abiodun provided details on both incidents. He explained that after the November 3 attack, a joint security tactical team responded swiftly, combing the Kattako forest and successfully rescuing four of the five abducted passengers. Efforts continue to secure the release of the remaining victim.

Regarding the earlier abduction, security forces mounted intense pressure on the kidnappers, resulting in the safe recovery of 12 victims on November 2 in the Pangugari forest. The remaining seven were rescued later that evening, with all 19 victims receiving medical care and subsequently returned to Sokoto.
