Written by Jerry Alomatu on November 4, 2024
Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, Chief Judge of the state Justice Mosunmola Dipeolu, and Controller General of the Nigeria Correctional Service, Haliru Nababa, are among the dignitaries set to attend the Family Weekend and Annual General Meeting of Prison Fellowship Nigeria (PFN). The event begins on Thursday at the Redemption Camp along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The AGM, themed “Transforming Power,” will feature a keynote address by Justice Dipeolu on “Decongestion of Our Correctional Facilities: Roles of Judiciary.” According to a statement by Apostle Paul Joseph of PFN’s Media Unit, the meeting highlights PFN’s dedication to correctional facility reforms and inmate rehabilitation.
PFN, affiliated with Prison Fellowship International and a member of the African Union Commission on Human and People’s Rights, aims to positively transform inmates’ lives using faith-based principles. This year’s AGM will further PFN’s mission to inspire lasting change through the gospel, aligning with the theme’s scripture reference, 2 Corinthians 3:18.
The fellowship also advocates for criminal justice reforms, victim support, and provides inmates with essential resources, legal aid, and rehabilitation support. Governor Abiodun will serve as the event’s distinguished guest of honor, with Dr. Emmanuel Adekunle, Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria in Ogun State, presiding as chairman.
Notable speakers include Andy Corley, International President of Prison Fellowship; Barrister Benson Iwuagwu, Executive Director of PFN; and Mrs. Ashella Ndhlovu, PFN’s African Regional Director. Approximately 600 delegates from across Nigeria are expected to participate in this three-day gathering.
