CAF has announced the ten-nation nominees for the 2024 CAF National Team of the Year Award, featuring Nigeria’s Super Eagles, who were runners-up at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) held in Ivory Coast earlier this year. The nomination recognizes the Eagles’ exceptional performance that propelled them to the finals of the recent AFCON.

In addition to the Super Eagles, the other nominees include Angola, Burkina Faso, DR Congo, Morocco, Mozambique, South Africa, Sudan, Uganda, and the 2023 AFCON champions, Côte d’Ivoire.

The 2024 CAF Awards are set to take place in Marrakech, Morocco, on December 16, 2024, marking the third consecutive year that the prestigious ceremony will be hosted in North Africa.

Furthermore, Ademola Lookman and William Troost-Ekong have earned recognition for their outstanding performances, each receiving nominations for the coveted Africa Player of the Year award. Stanley Nwabali’s remarkable goalkeeping skills have also secured him a nomination in the Goalkeeper of the Year category.

The Technical Director of the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) and interim coach of the Super Eagles, Augustine Eguavoen, expressed his delight at the nominations, emphasizing their importance.

He congratulated the nominated duo, stating, “Congratulations to our Super Super Super Eagles duo – Ademola Lookman and William Troost-Ekong on their nomination for the 2024 CAF Player of the Year. A brilliant year for Nigerian football; let’s crown it all with another win in Morocco.”
