Written by on October 25, 2024

A tragic incident unfolded late Thursday when a 14-year-old broke into a police station in Bosanska Krupa, Bosnia, and fatally stabbed one police officer while wounding another. The town, located about 300 kilometers northwest of Sarajevo, was left reeling from the attack.

Ramo Isak, the interior minister for the Bosniak-Croat federation, confirmed the fatality and noted that the wounded officer remains in critical condition at a hospital, as reported by police spokesman Adnan Beganovic. The young attacker, born in 2009, has been apprehended, and authorities have launched an investigation to determine the motives behind the assault.

The incident has raised concerns across the region. Regional police chief Adnan Habibija described the attack as a “sad and alarming” event, particularly due to the involvement of a minor. Meanwhile, Armin Halitovic, the mayor of Bosanska Krupa, expressed shock, stating that the town, with a population of about 11,000, is known for its peace and tolerance.

Security has been tightened in the area following the incident, police officials said. The attack follows another alarming event last year, when a 13-year-old injured a teacher with a firearm in northeastern Bosnia, prompting further concerns about youth violence.
