Manchester United Cuts Annual Benefits to Sir Alex Ferguson

Written by on October 15, 2024

In a strategic move to streamline expenses, Manchester United has officially halted the annual benefits previously granted to former manager Sir Alex Ferguson. According to a report by The Athletic on Tuesday, the Ratcliffe Ineos group informed Ferguson of this decision as part of the club’s broader cost-reduction strategy.

Despite this change, Ferguson will continue his role as a non-executive director and is expected to attend matches at the club’s home ground, Old Trafford.

“Ratcliffe told Ferguson that the club is seeking to reduce costs and are no longer prepared to sustain his payments. United sources indicated that the matter has been dealt with amicably,” the report noted.

The Glazer family, who are the majority owners of the Red Devils, had previously approved the payments to Ferguson, recognizing the lasting impact he has had on the club since his retirement in 2013. The 82-year-old manager left a legacy that is still felt at Manchester United, where he led the team to numerous trophies during his illustrious tenure.
