Following the disappointing performance of the Super Eagles in the ongoing 2026 World Cup qualifiers, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has announced plans to hire an expatriate technical adviser for the national team.
Nigeria’s recent struggles in the qualification series, including a shocking defeat to Benin Republic, have prompted calls for changes within the team’s coaching staff. In response, the NFF issued a communique after a meeting, apologizing to fans for the team’s poor results and outlining plans for improvement.
“The Executive Committee of Nigeria Football Federation held a meeting…to deliberate on important issues in Nigeria Football and resolved as follows,” the statement read.
“The Executive Committee wholeheartedly apologized to Nigerians for the dismal output and subsequent very poor returns of the Senior Men National Team, Super Eagles, in four out of 10 matches in the ongoing qualification series for the 2026 FIFA World Cup finals.”
In addition to the apology, the NFF announced the decision to hire an expatriate Technical Adviser for the Super Eagles in the coming weeks, aiming to strengthen the team ahead of upcoming tournaments.
Furthermore, the NFF expressed dissatisfaction with the attitude of some players towards national assignments and pledged to implement a more rigorous scouting program to identify talented Nigeria-eligible players worldwide.
While the role of current head coach Finidi George remains uncertain, the NFF’s focus on revamping the coaching staff underscores their commitment to improving the national team’s performance.
In addition to addressing issues with the Super Eagles, the NFF affirmed its support for the Super Falcons in their preparations for the upcoming Olympics in France, emphasizing its dedication to promoting success across all national football teams.
