Seyi Tinubu Refutes Claims of ₦100m Bribe Offer and Abduction Plot

Written by on May 2, 2025

Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu, has categorically denied accusations made by the President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Comrade Atiku Abubakar Isah, describing them as baseless fabrications aimed at tarnishing his reputation.

In a statement issued via his verified Instagram account on Friday, Seyi Tinubu expressed astonishment at the gravity of the claims. “Wow\… how can someone lie with such conviction? This is clearly an attempt to defame my character. May God be with you, Comrade Atiku Isah,” he wrote.

In a follow-up post, he further asserted: “At no point have I ever held a meeting with Comrade Isah—whether in Lagos or elsewhere. To the best of my knowledge, I have never even met him. Additionally, I have not visited any location with thugs, nor engaged in any form of coercion. These allegations are entirely fictional and without merit.”

His rebuttal came in response to accusations leveled by Isah during a press conference held on Wednesday. The student leader alleged that Seyi Tinubu, alongside the Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, offered him a bribe of ₦100 million to publicly support the president’s administration. According to Isah, he declined the offer, citing a lack of visible progress under the current leadership.

He further claimed that following his refusal, he was abducted on April 15, subjected to physical assault, and stripped naked in a purported conspiracy involving the Managing Director of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA). “I endured severe beatings in a bid to secure my freedom,” Isah stated, adding that he issued a public statement under duress due to threats involving the release of compromising footage.

Isah also alleged that he was warned his life could be taken without repercussions, citing unnamed individuals who reportedly assured him that any fallout could be easily suppressed. “They said even if they killed me, nothing would happen. They claimed Seyi Tinubu could orchestrate a cover-up. One Ladoja even boasted he could instruct the Inspector General of Police to suppress the matter, and if the police refused, he would take matters into his own hands,” Isah recounted.

Despite the alleged threats, Isah stated that he was undeterred and proceeded with the NANS inauguration, at which he was formally declared president. He concluded his remarks with a message of defiance: “I want Nigerians to understand what transpired. We will not be silenced. Seyi Tinubu may act as he pleases, but our resolve remains unshaken.”

As of the time of reporting, there has been no official response from other individuals named in Isah’s allegations, including government officials.
