Run Club Abuja Raises N8.5 Million for Leprosy Community Health Centre

Run Club Abuja, a prominent sports club in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has successfully raised N8.5 million for the Alheri Leprosy Colony’s Community Health Centre through a charity half-marathon event held in Abuja.

The charity half-marathon, themed “Lace Up”, attracted 400 participants, including the inspiring 69-year-old participant Maria Ojo. The event kicked off from Central Park, traversed through Wuse 2 and Maitama, and returned to the Central Park.

Emmanuel Otokpa, President of Run Club Abuja, highlighted the event’s success in surpassing its initial target of N10 million through participant registrations and sponsorships. He emphasized the club’s commitment to using sports as a platform to contribute positively to society.

Pabina Yinkere, Head of the Asset Management Team at Norrenberger Group, the event’s headline sponsor, praised the initiative as a “noble cause” aligned with the group’s vision of supporting community health initiatives. Yinkere reiterated the importance of healthcare accessibility for all, underscoring Norrenberger’s commitment to social responsibility.

Salihu Aliyu, Secretary of the Leprosy Colony, expressed gratitude for the substantial donation, acknowledging the persistent healthcare challenges faced by individuals affected by leprosy. He affirmed that the funds would significantly enhance medical interventions and support within the community.

The charity half-marathon not only promoted fitness and healthy living among participants but also underscored the power of collective action in addressing societal needs, particularly healthcare in underserved communities.

This initiative by Run Club Abuja serves as a testament to the impact of sports in fostering community support and making a tangible difference in healthcare delivery.
