Officials have announced that Referee Jarred Gillett will be equipped with a camera during Monday’s Premier League matchup between Crystal Palace and Manchester United.
The Premier League emphasized that the camera footage will not be aired live but will be incorporated into a program scheduled for later this year. This program aims to provide deeper insights and education into the challenges faced by referees in English football’s top tier.
Gillett will wear a head-mounted device, seamlessly integrated into the standard referee communication system for significant fixtures.
The one-time deployment of the camera has received approval from the sport’s governing body, the International Football Association Board (IFAB), as well as from the Premier League, Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL), and the participating clubs.
“We extend our gratitude to Crystal Palace and Manchester United for their support in this initiative,” stated the Premier League in a released statement.
