Rashford, Reece James Omitted from England Euro 2024 Squad

England manager Gareth Southgate unveiled his preliminary 33-man squad for Euro 2024 on Tuesday, a selection that notably excluded Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford.
Among the notable absentees were former Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson and Chelsea skipper Reece James. Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton received his first-ever call-up, thanks to the Eagles’ strong finish in the Premier League.
Southgate’s defensive options were bolstered with the inclusion of uncapped players like Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite and Liverpool duo Jarell Quansah and Curtis Jones.
Despite being one of the favorites for the tournament, England faces challenges, notably Rashford’s exclusion due to a lackluster season performance, marked by only eight goals in 42 appearances for Manchester United.
Veteran Henderson’s move to Ajax earlier this year did not secure him a spot, while Jadon Sancho missed out despite his resurgence at Borussia Dortmund. Notable names like Raheem Sterling and Kalvin Phillips were also overlooked.
The squad features promising talents like Jude Bellingham and Phil Foden, alongside experienced players like Harry Kane, as England aims for its first major tournament win in 58 years.
The journey begins with matches against Serbia, Denmark, and Slovenia in Group C.
