PROF. OLUYINKA ANUOLU ESAN PRESENTS CALEB UNIVERSITY’S 6TH INAUGURAL LECTURE SERIES

Former Commonwealth scholar, Prof Oluyinka Anuolu Esan, a Professor of Broadcasting, Film and Development Communication, is to present the 6th Inaugural Lecture in the annual series, titled “Media Communication and Who We Are” on Thursday 8th February 2024 at the University Multipurpose Hall by 11:00 am prompt.

As reported by Olawale Adekoya, the Information, Media and Publication Specialist of the University, Prof. Esan is an expert on the social relevance of Nigerian Media and Film Messages. Her study of production practices foregrounds inquiries into cultures of reception, offering insight into audience pleasures, and meanings that are created and circulated, with a particular focus on women and children.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof Nosa Owens Ibie, who is to chair the event, describes Prof. Esan as “a breath of fresh air in communication studies whose critical insights illuminates discourses and often showcases her exposure and cognate experiences in universities in Nigeria and the United Kingdom.”

The 6th Inaugural Lecturer bagged a B.Sc. in Mass Communication at the University of Lagos in 1981, an M. A. degree in Radio/TV from Ohio University, Athens Ohio, USA in 1983, then a Doctorate in Sociology from the University of Glasgow (1993).

Professor Esan has spent close to four decades in academia – teaching, conducting research, and applying these in consultancy projects. Her teaching career began in 1984 as an Assistant Lecturer at the Department of Mass Communication, University of Lagos. She rose to the post of Senior Lecturer before moving to the University of Winchester, School of Media and Film in 2001. There, she attained the post of a Reader before joining Caleb University in 2020.
