Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has directed a sweeping operation by security forces after a kidnapping incident on Sunday along the Sagamu-Ijebu Ode expressway. The abduction occurred near the Area Command and Ilishan City Gate, where gunmen targeted foreign nationals who had recently arrived in Nigeria.
Security sources suspect insider involvement, noting the victims’ recent entry into the country. Governor Abiodun has mobilized a joint effort involving the police, army, NSCDC, Amotekun, So Safe Corps, and local hunters. This operation is bolstered by the deployment of drones and advanced security technologies.
In a statement, Governor Abiodun assured residents of Ogun State of enhanced security measures across affected areas and statewide patrols. He emphasized the state’s commitment to swiftly apprehending the kidnappers and ensuring the safe return of the victims.
“We understand the concerns and anxiety this incident has caused, but we want to emphasize that Ogun State remains a safe place to live, work, and visit. The government is committed to maintaining law and order and will not relent in its efforts to protect the lives and property of all citizens,” Prince Abiodun remarked.
