The Ogun State Government has initiated a monitoring exercise across all parks and garages in the state. In a statement, the government announced that the initiative, named ‘Task Force Control of Transport Fares of Motorists and Unethical Practices by Filling Stations,’ was launched by the Ministry of Transportation and began last week.

Commissioner for Transportation, Dairo Olugbenga, emphasized the importance of understanding the concerns of Ogun residents regarding transportation fares.

“The vision of this exercise is to feel the pulse of the good people of Ogun State by ensuring and confirming that they are not being overburdened by the cost of transportation in the State,” he stated.

Dairo noted that prior discussions with union leaders in the state resulted in a clear directive not to increase ticket prices under the pretext of rising fuel costs. He remarked, “The high cost of transportation in the country is due to fuel prices, and as such, the necessity to ameliorate pressures on the citizenry should be as swift. This, as a matter of urgency, has been kicked into action since last Monday.”

He clarified that the task force’s efforts extend beyond the Ministry of Transportation alone.

“The decision to constitute the monitoring team is a direct order from the Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, and the purpose is to ensure that citizens are not overburdened with the high cost of transportation while we as a ministry envisioned the best possible way to ease movement for our people in Ogun State,” he added.

To support this initiative, Dairo explained that collaboration involves the Department of State Security Service, the Nigeria Police Force, the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, and the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement team, among others.
