Nigerian Table Tennis Stars, Quadri Aruna Ready for Paris 2024 Olympic Opener

Nigeria’s quest for table tennis glory at the 2024 Paris Olympics begins on Saturday, with Quadri Aruna set to take on Romania’s Eduard Ionescu in the men’s singles first round.
The draw, conducted on Wednesday at the South Paris Arena, has placed Aruna in a high-stakes matchup against Ionescu, who previously defeated him 2-3 in the European Champions League semi-finals. This match presents Aruna with a chance to exact revenge.
In addition, Nigerian teammate Olajide Omotayo will face Iran’s Noshad Alamiyan in another first-round clash. In the women’s singles, Offiong Edem will compete against Brazil’s Bruna Takahashi, while newcomer Fatimo Bello will challenge Jia Nana Yuan, a Chinese-born French player.
The table tennis tournament will take place from Saturday through August 10 at the South Paris Arena. The competition includes five medal events: men’s and women’s singles, mixed doubles, and men’s and women’s team events. Key dates include the women’s singles medal matches on August 3, men’s singles on August 4, mixed doubles on August 6, men’s team on August 9, and women’s team on August 10.
