NFF to Unveil Finidi George as Super Eagles Coach Today

Today in Abuja, the Nigeria Football Federation will host an unveiling ceremony to officially introduce Mr. Finidi George as the new Head Coach of the Senior Men National Team, Super Eagles.

Nigeria’s Minister of Sports Development, John Owan Enoh, is set to attend the unveiling ceremony alongside the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Tinuke Watti, and other dignitaries including the President of NFF, Ibrahim Musa Gusau, and the General Secretary, Mohammed Sanusi.

Finidi, who opted to return to Nigeria and take charge of two-time CAF Champions League winners Enyimba FC instead of coaching a second-tier team in Spain, guided the People’s Elephant to clinch the Nigeria elite division title in his second season. With six matches remaining, the club is still in contention to retain the title this season.

Having served as an assistant to Portuguese coach José Peseiro for 20 months starting from the summer of 2022, Finidi contributed to the Super Eagles’ qualification for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. Under his tenure, the team came close to securing a fourth African title in Cote d’Ivoire three months ago, falling short by just 28 minutes.

Finidi, who boasts 62 caps for Nigeria at the senior level, has a decorated international career that includes winning gold, silver, and bronze at the Africa Cup of Nations, as well as participating in two FIFA World Cup finals.

As he steps into his new role, Finidi faces the immediate challenge of securing maximum points from the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches against South Africa (home) and Benin Republic (away).
