Written by on July 23, 2024

Retired Brig-Gen. Buba Marwa, the Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), has urged youths to avoid illicit drug consumption and trafficking. This warning was issued during the inauguration of the agency’s new Zonal Office in Ayingba, Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi on Tuesday.

Represented by the Zonal Commander Zone C, Mr. Hassan Sakaba, Marwa stated that the new zonal office in Ayingba is intended to bolster the agency’s efforts in curbing drug abuse and trafficking in Kogi and the North Central region.

Marwa called on Kogi residents to support the agency’s fight against illicit drugs to protect the youth from harm. “As patriots and concerned citizens of our dear country, we should rise to the occasion to ensure that we fight against the menace to keep our youths safe and sound. Illicit drugs are cutting short lives of our children, very promising children, who are our future leaders. We must therefore not allow that to happen,” he said.

The NDLEA chairman also expressed gratitude to Governor Usman Ododo for his unwavering support of the agency’s initiatives in the state.

Inaugurating the office, the Eje of Dekina, Alhaji Usman Obaje, praised the NDLEA for its dedication to combating the drug menace in Kogi and across the nation. He noted that the recent significant seizures and arrests of drug traffickers highlight the agency’s diligent efforts to protect citizens from the dangers of drug abuse.

Alhaji Umar Yahuza, the NDLEA Kogi Commander, in his welcome address, stated that the new zonal office would facilitate the agency’s operations in addressing drug abuse and trafficking in the state. He urged the people of Ayingba and surrounding areas to report any suspicious activities involving drug peddlers for prompt action.
