Nationwide Protest: Tinubu Meets Traditional Rulers at Aso Villa

Written by on July 25, 2024

President Bola Tinubu is currently engaged in a crucial meeting with traditional rulers at the Aso Rock Villa in Abuja.

The delegation is led by the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, and the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi. The meeting commenced around 2:30 pm with President Tinubu arriving at the Council Chamber.

While the specific agenda of Thursday’s meeting remains undisclosed, it is widely speculated that it pertains to the upcoming nationwide protests scheduled for August 1 – 10, 2024, under the banner ‘EndBadGovernance’. These protests, which have gained considerable traction on social media, aim to address economic hardships, although the organisers remain anonymous with no official group taking responsibility.

The meeting includes key figures such as Vice President Kashim Shettima, Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, and Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun.

Additionally, Governors Abdulrazaq Abdulrahman of Kwara State, Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum, and Hope Uzodinma of Imo State, who chairs the Progressives Governors Forum, are in attendance.

The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, along with the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu, are also present.

Earlier, President Tinubu met with APC Governors at the Villa. However, no details were provided to the press following that discussion.
