With an eye on the 2027 general elections, the Lagos State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has launched a concerted effort to reconcile internal conflicts and unite party members for a formidable challenge against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
Chief Olabode George, a prominent figure within the party, disclosed during a recent appearance on Arise TV’s Newsday that the PDP is actively engaged in reconciling divergent factions within its ranks. This initiative aims to address longstanding discord among stakeholders following the party’s lacklustre performance in the 2023 elections.
Acknowledging previous challenges in party unity, George highlighted recent strides made towards reconciliation, citing a stakeholders’ meeting held in Ikeja where leaders emphasized the importance of forgiveness and cohesion in preparation for the upcoming polls.
George elaborated on the reconciliation efforts, emphasizing the significance of post-election analysis and the need to identify committed party members while addressing grievances. He commended the recent meeting chaired by Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State in Ibadan, showcasing regional leadership unity towards the party’s objectives.
Despite acknowledging lingering pockets of dissent, George expressed optimism about the ongoing reconciliation process, underscoring its critical role in presenting a united front to voters disillusioned with the status quo.
Looking ahead, George reaffirmed the party’s determination to contest the 2027 elections vigorously, aiming to capitalize on growing public discontent and position the PDP as a viable alternative to the incumbent APC administration.
While acknowledging inevitable internal disagreements, George stressed the importance of adhering to party constitutions and rules, urging members to prioritize collective interests over personal agendas to ensure a cohesive and effective opposition.
As the PDP intensifies its reconciliation efforts and sets its sights on electoral victory, the political landscape in Lagos promises to witness heightened competition and strategic manoeuvring in the lead-up to 2027.
