Kylian Mbappe Scores in Farewell PSG Home Game, Despite Loss to Toulouse

In his final home appearance for Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), Kylian Mbappe found the net, but it wasn’t enough to prevent the French champions from suffering a surprising 3-1 defeat against Toulouse on the night they received the Ligue 1 championship trophy.
Mbappe had earlier confirmed his departure from PSG in a video shared on social media, ending his seven-year tenure with the club. Real Madrid is widely speculated to be his next destination, a move that had been anticipated since February when he privately expressed his desire to leave.
Wearing the captain’s armband, Mbappe scored early against Toulouse, adding to his remarkable season tally of 44 goals in all competitions. However, Toulouse quickly equalized, and despite PSG’s efforts, they couldn’t recover from the deficit.
Yann Gboho’s superb strike and Frank Magri’s late goal secured the victory for Toulouse, marking only PSG’s second loss in Ligue 1 this season.
Mbappe’s departure leaves a significant void in PSG’s lineup, considering his club-record 256 goals since joining from Monaco in 2017. He leaves PSG as a club legend, with coach Luis Enrique acknowledging his immense contribution to the team.
Despite the disappointment of Sunday’s defeat, PSG had planned to celebrate their title triumph rather than focus on Mbappe’s departure specifically. However, Mbappe received both applause and jeers from the crowd, with a large banner displayed in the stadium honoring his legacy.
While PSG’s Champions League aspirations were dashed this season, Mbappe will hope to pursue European success with his next club. PSG, on the other hand, still have a chance to complete a domestic treble as they face Lyon in the French Cup final later this month.
In other Ligue 1 action, Mbappe’s former club Monaco secured second place and Champions League qualification, while Lille and Brest battled for third. At the bottom of the table, Clermont’s relegation was confirmed, while Lorient faces an uphill battle to avoid the same fate.
