Kelechi Iheanacho has finalized his move to Sevilla, signing a two-year contract with the La Liga club. The 27-year-old Nigerian striker completed his medical on Tuesday and officially joined the team on Wednesday.
Iheanacho’s transfer, completed on a free transfer from Leicester City, marks Sevilla’s fifth signing of the summer. He joins Nigerian teammate Chidera Ejuke, along with Peque, Saúl, and Lokonga.
The striker’s new deal includes an option for an additional year. Iheanacho’s career at Leicester City began in 2017, after a stint with their youth academy and a loan period. Over his time with the Premier League side, he appeared in 232 matches, netting 61 goals and providing 34 assists.
In European competitions, Iheanacho has featured in 19 matches: seven in the Champions League, 11 in the UEFA Europa League, and one in the Conference League. His international record includes 55 appearances for Nigeria, with 19 goals scored.
Iheanacho’s notable achievements include winning the U-17 World Cup with Nigeria in 2015, where he was awarded the Golden Ball as the tournament’s Most Valuable Player.
Sevilla’s forward line is expected to see changes with this signing. Iheanacho will fill the role previously occupied by En-Nesyri, while Peque, although an attacking midfielder by trade, will also contribute to the forward positions. This move completes Sevilla’s attacking roster well before the start of August.
