KEDCO Seeks Peaceful Resolution with Aggrieved Manufacturers

The Kano Electricity Distribution Plc. (KEDCO) has called for a peaceful and amicable resolution with the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) and other dissatisfied customers. In a statement on Monday, Head of KEDCO’s Corporate Communications, Sani Bala, urged understanding from all customers, emphasizing the company’s commitment to customer-centric operations within strict regulations.
The statement highlights KEDCO’s appeal for reconciliation following a court victory against MAN, the Nigeria Association of Small-Scale Industrialists (Kano State Chapter), and several companies, including Tofa Textile Limited and Dala Foods Nig. Ltd. These parties had filed a lawsuit in May 2024 to halt the implementation of the April 2024 Supplementary Order on Band A tariff increases.
On Friday, July 19, the Federal High Court in Kano dismissed the lawsuit, ruling in favor of KEDCO. Presiding Judge, Hon. Justice Simon Amobeda, concluded that the plaintiffs’ claims lacked merit, affirming the validity of the April 2024 Supplementary Order made under the Multi-Year Tariff Order 2024. The court found no evidence of discriminatory treatment against Band A customers, who receive more electricity supply and therefore justifiably pay higher rates.
KEDCO reiterated the importance of manufacturers and promised continued support with improved cost-efficient electricity supply in its franchise area.
