Kamala Harris Earns Democratic Nod for 2024 Presidential Race
Written by Jerry Alomatu on August 2, 2024
US Vice President Kamala Harris has secured the Democratic nomination for the 2024 presidential election, solidifying her position as the party’s candidate to face Donald Trump in November. At 59, Harris is the first Black and South Asian woman to achieve this nomination.
Harris was the sole candidate on the ballot during a five-day virtual voting period with nearly 4,000 delegates. She will be formally nominated at a Chicago convention later this month.
Following Joe Biden’s withdrawal from the race, Harris has quickly risen in prominence, setting fundraising records and closing gaps in the polls. “I couldn’t be prouder,” Biden posted on X after her nomination.
Harris will soon embark on a campaign tour across seven key states, including Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin, focusing on crucial battlegrounds and diverse southern states.
Her campaign has attracted top advisors from Barack Obama’s campaigns and has framed the race as a fight for “freedom.” While Harris has been assertive in her messaging, she has not yet detailed her broader vision in a comprehensive interview. Meanwhile, Trump’s campaign has struggled to adapt its strategy against her.
