The Lagos State Government has impounded 40 vehicles for road obstructions and operating illegal garages, according to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA). This action, aimed at restoring order and ensuring traffic flow, saw the impoundment of 25 commercial vehicles and 15 private cars in areas such as Oyingbo, Ijora, and Idumota.
Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Sola Giwa, emphasized the state’s commitment to maintaining seamless traffic flow and public safety, warning offenders that disruptive activities will not be tolerated. Giwa stated, “Our goal is to create a safe and orderly environment for all road users, and this action is a crucial step in that direction.”
LASTMA highlighted that these areas are notorious for traffic congestion due to unauthorized parking and makeshift garages, posing safety risks to pedestrians and obstructing vehicle movement. The agency plans to extend this enforcement to other parts of Lagos where similar illegal activities are prevalent.
Vehicle owners and operators are urged to comply with traffic regulations to avoid sanctions and contribute to a safer, more orderly Lagos.
