The Federal Government has committed to accelerating the completion of the 378.3 megawatts Egbema Power Plant in Imo State, which is currently 70 percent complete. The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, made this announcement during an inspection visit to the power plant over the weekend.
Adelabu commended the Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma, for his dedication and collaboration with the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) to advance the power projects in the state. Accompanied by the Managing Director of the NDPHC, Mr. Chiedu Ugbo, the minister also praised President Bola Tinubu for signing the 2023 Electricity Act, which permits states to participate in the electricity sector.
The minister emphasized that the completion of the Egbema power plant, along with its associated transmission projects, will significantly enhance the electricity supply in Imo State and the surrounding regions.
Governor Uzodinma pledged continued cooperation with the NDPHC to ensure the timely completion of the plant. He highlighted the joint efforts to finish the 378.3MW Egbema Power Plant, the 330/33KV switchyard, the Omoku-Egbema-Owerri-Alaoji 330KV DC transmission lines projects, and the expansion of the Owerri transmission substation.
“These projects are at various stages of completion, with the power plant at a 70 percent completion stage. The collaboration between the Imo State Government and NDPHC aims to enhance electricity supply and energize homes and businesses in Imo State through the completion of the Egbema Power Plant and associated transmission infrastructure,” stated Bolaji Tunji, spokesperson for Minister Adelabu, on Sunday.
