Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium is set to become the primary home ground for the women’s team starting from next season, following a remarkable surge in interest, the club announced earlier today, Tuesday, May 14th, 2024.
The plan entails hosting 11 games at the Emirates during the 2024/25 campaign, comprising eight Women’s Super League (WSL) matches and three potential Champions League games, contingent upon qualification for the group stages. Additionally, any home legs in Champions League knockout ties will also take place at the Emirates.
While the remaining fixtures, including domestic cup matches, will continue to be held at Arsenal’s Meadow Park ground in London’s commuter belt.
This decision comes on the heels of a notable increase in attendance at Emirates Stadium for women’s matches, with an average crowd of over 52,000 attending the six WSL games played at the venue this season. This included two sell-outs and three WSL attendance records.
Arsenal’s chief executive, Vinai Venkatesham, expressed excitement about the move, stating, “We have recently seen extraordinary growth in supporters coming to Emirates Stadium for games held here, which include two complete sell-outs this season.”
Arsenal Women’s head coach, Jonas Eidevall, highlighted the special connection with the fans, emphasizing their role in driving the team forward. He added, “Next season, Emirates Stadium becomes our main home, and we are all excited to play in front of bigger crowds every week.”
