Dettol Promotes Hygiene in Lagos Communities with Football Events

Hygiene brand Dettol has reached out to Lagos State communities, organizing football matches to showcase grassroots talent as part of a three-event series aimed at promoting community health and hygiene.
Dettol Cool hosted the events from June 16 through June 27, 2024. The series kicked off in Gbagada and included football matches at National Stadium, Surulere, and the African Church Field, Ogba, according to a statement from the brand.
Local teams competed for a N200,000 cash prize at each location, with Crespo FC winning in Gbagada with a dramatic last-minute goal, Box2Box FC taking the victory in Surulere, and Oriental Strikers FC triumphing in Ogba.
Dettol Cool’s brand ambassador, professional footballer Taiwo Awoniyi, attended the Gbagada event, exciting both participants and spectators. Awoniyi praised Dettol Cool’s efforts to promote health and hygiene through sports and expressed pride in being associated with the initiative.
While presenting the prize to the winning team in Gbagada, Awoniyi emphasized the importance of such initiatives in nurturing young talent and providing a platform for them to shine. The Nottingham Forest centre-forward shared his own beginnings and highlighted the significance of opportunities like this in shaping a football career.
Nonye Opara, Senior Brand Manager at Dettol Nigeria, stated that the company utilized the universal appeal of football to create a dynamic platform that showcases local talent while reinforcing Dettol’s commitment to holistic well-being. Opara remarked, “This initiative embodies Dettol Cool’s core ethos of protection and freshness, seamlessly integrating our brand values with the passion and energy of grassroots sports.”
She added that the Dettol Cool football pop-up series reinforces the brand’s dedication to supporting physical health and athletic performance.
