Cristiano Ronaldo Smashes Saudi Pro League Goal Record with Al Nassr Heroics

Written by on May 28, 2024

Cristiano Ronaldo has etched his name in the annals of Saudi Pro League history, shattering the previous record for the most goals scored in a single season. The 39-year-old football icon achieved this remarkable feat by finding the back of the net for Al Nassr on two occasions during their final match of the campaign.

“I don’t follow the records, the records follow me,” Ronaldo tweeted confidently after his stellar performance.

In a thrilling showdown against Al Ittihad, Ronaldo demonstrated his prowess with a goal just before halftime and another with a well-executed header in the 69th minute, securing a 4-2 victory for Al Nassr on home turf.

This outstanding achievement surpasses the previous record set by Moroccan striker Abderrazak Hamdallah, who netted 34 goals in the 2018-19 season.

Despite Al Nassr’s secured second-placed finish, trailing behind champions Al Hilal by 14 points, Ronaldo’s impact on the league has been undeniable since his arrival at Riyadh-based Al Nassr in December 2022. His presence has marked the beginning of a wave of international stars drawn to the Saudi league by lucrative contracts.

Beyond his club success, Ronaldo’s illustrious career extends to the international stage. Having led Portugal to victory at the 2016 Euros, he is set to represent his nation once again in this year’s edition in Germany, marking his 11th international tournament appearance.

With a staggering 206 caps, Ronaldo holds the title of the most capped player in men’s international football, accompanied by a record-breaking 128 goals to his name. As he continues to redefine footballing excellence, Ronaldo’s legacy remains firmly entrenched in the fabric of the sport.
