Chelsea Joins PSG in Pursuit of Victor Osimhen with Lukaku Swap Offer

French football powerhouse Paris Saint-Germain recently signaled their interest in acquiring Victor Osimhen from Napoli, proposing a deal of €90 million plus an additional €40 million. Now, Premier League side Chelsea has entered the race, putting forth an offer of €90 million plus Romelu Lukaku in exchange for the Nigerian striker.
Despite Osimhen’s recent contract extension with Napoli, which includes a release clause of around €130 million, clubs remain undeterred in their pursuit of the talented striker.
Osimhen’s impressive performances with Napoli have elevated him to one of the most sought-after strikers in European football.
Reports from Il Corriere dello Sport suggest that PSG is currently leading the race for the 25-year-old, seeing him as the perfect replacement for the departing Kylian Mbappé, who is set to join Real Madrid.
However, PSG faces competition from other top English clubs, including Chelsea, Manchester United, and Liverpool, all of whom are expected to make bids for Osimhen soon.
Sky Sport Italia’s transfer expert, Gianluca Di Marzio, revealed that Chelsea has initiated talks with Napoli regarding Osimhen and is exploring the possibility of including Lukaku in the deal to reduce costs.
Marzio explained, “Chelsea has also made initial contact with Napoli.” He further added, “The English club is exploring the feasibility of an €80-90 million operation, with Lukaku’s inclusion along with a promising young player.”
The potential involvement of Lukaku adds an interesting twist to the negotiations, especially with Napoli’s incoming sporting director, Giovanni Manna, who previously pursued Lukaku for Juventus last summer.
Lukaku, expressing his preference to remain in Italy following his loan spell at Inter and subsequent season with Roma, has indicated his reluctance to stay at Chelsea.
Acquiring Osimhen would be a significant boost for Chelsea, who have faced challenges in their attacking department, relying heavily on Cole Palmer due to the inconsistency of Nicolas Jackson, who was signed from Villarreal last summer.
Despite missing a significant portion of the 2023/24 season due to injuries and international commitments with Nigeria at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, Osimhen has maintained an impressive record, contributing to 17 goals (14 goals and three assists) in 22 Serie A appearances last season.
His prolific form was instrumental in Napoli’s Serie A triumph, where he scored a league-high 26 goals in 32 Serie A matches and a total of 31 goals across all competitions.
