An aircraft maintenance and repair facility, alongside a flight training school for aspiring pilots and aeronautical engineers, is poised to commence operations at the Gateway International Agro Cargo and Passenger Airport in Ilisan Remo soon.

Gbolahan Abatan, the President of Air First Maintenance and Repair Facility, revealed this during an interview with journalists following a meeting with Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun. Abatan expressed the company’s eagerness to collaborate with the state government in developing the aircraft maintenance facility at the agro-cargo airport.

Abatan emphasized that the facility aims to minimize the need for aircraft to be flown overseas for routine maintenance and also intends to initiate aircraft assembling activities. He highlighted the potential for job creation, benefiting locals and individuals from neighboring states once the facility is fully operational.

Commending the governor for spearheading the construction of a top-notch airport in the state, Abatan affirmed that the governor has pledged full support for their endeavors. He anticipated commencing activities at the airport by the end of June, pending certification processes. Additionally, plans are in place to establish a flight training school for young pilots and aircraft engineers, with provisions for assembling aircraft in the future.

Commissioner for Transportation, Gbenga Dairo, lauded the airport’s cutting-edge facilities, including the longest runway in the country, and praised the advanced technology employed for aircraft and airport management. Dairo expressed satisfaction with Air First’s reputation for excellence in aircraft maintenance and welcomed the establishment of the premier aircraft maintenance company at the airport.
