39-year Old Ronaldo Leads Portugal’s Euro 2024 Squad with Record in Sight

Cristiano Ronaldo is poised to set a new Euro record after being included in Portugal’s 26-man squad for the 2024 tournament, announced by coach Roberto Martinez on Tuesday.
The 39-year-old, five-time Ballon d’Or winner is set to make his 11th appearance in a major international tournament, marking a milestone in his illustrious career.
Ronaldo’s journey began at Euro 2004, and this year’s event will mark his sixth appearance at the men’s continental championship. Despite challenges, including injuries, he has consistently delivered for his country, earning a winner’s medal in 2016.
Playing for Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia, Ronaldo already holds the men’s world record for caps (206) and international goals (128), underlining his enduring impact on the sport.
Martinez praised Ronaldo’s exceptional performance, highlighting his 42 goals in 41 matches for his club. The coach emphasized Ronaldo’s invaluable contribution and his crucial role in Portugal’s quest for success.
Despite Ronaldo’s senior status, his former Real Madrid teammate Pepe, aged 41 and currently playing for Porto, has also been called up for his leadership qualities, reflecting his importance in the team.
Portugal’s preparations include warm-up matches against Finland, Croatia, and Ireland before they kick off their Euro campaign against the Czech Republic, Turkey, and Georgia in Group F.
Joining Ronaldo in the squad are formidable attackers like Rafael Leao, Joao Felix, and Goncalo Ramos, supported by creative midfielders such as Bernardo Silva and Bruno Fernandes.
The squad features a blend of experience and youth across various positions, signaling Portugal’s ambition to compete at the highest level in Euro 2024.
